Yukipoyo (Yuki Kimura), who is active as a talent and model, released her new single “Te-Te Gyaru” on Friday, July 10, as the artist “Yukipoyo.”
XLII, who has provided music for numerous artists including MINMI, Yayoi Daimon, Watson, AKKOGORILLA, and Reichi, joined as producer, marking the start of Yukipoyo’s full-fledged music activities. The track represents her first step in bringing Japanese gyaru culture to the world.
The “Te-Te” in the title “Te-Te Gyaru” is derived from the Japanese word “teetee,” meaning “precious.” The lyrics are packed with trending phrases spanning generations, including “Heisei Hitoketa Gachi Babaa,” “Bakumore Fukahi Gyaru Damon★,” and “Chappii ni Kikoo.”
A portion of the track currently being previewed on social media has surpassed a total of 4 million views on TikTok and 1.52 million views on Instagram. In addition, the latest visual, which also serves as Yukipoyo’s artist photo, received 92,000 likes as soon as it was posted on X (formerly Twitter), generating an extraordinary level of excitement even before the release. This shows the intense public attention and high expectations surrounding Yukipoyo and gyaru culture as it continues to evolve in the Reiwa era.
Yukipoyo also plans to pursue music activities in the Philippines, where her own roots lie. A Tagalog-language remix, “Te-Te Gyaru (feat. Zae) [Tagalog ver.],” featuring Filipino hip-hop artist Zae, is also set for release. Her international collaborations and activities in the Philippines will also be ones to watch.
The Music Video will also be released on Monday, July 13. Filmed at Shibuya Scramble Crossing, SHIBUYA 109, and inside a purikura photo booth, the completed MV is filled with the world of gyaru culture. Gyaru models from the legendary gyaru magazines egg and nuts also appear in the video.
PUSH Japan, which produced the music video for Megan Thee Stallion x Yuki Chiba’s “Mamushi,” winner of Best Trending Video at the U.S. MTV Video Music Awards, handled the entire process from creative development through production.
