Singer-songwriter Sagiri Sól will release her new single “sad mark girl :(” on Wednesday, September 9.
Produced by ALI& (80KIDZ), the track is a pop song that incorporates the texture of indie pop, one of Sagiri Sól’s musical roots, along with a light, bouncing beat. Together with its catchy melody, the song leaves a lasting impression with Sagiri Sól’s signature positive and humorous lyrics.
The lyrics lightly depict small everyday mishaps and moments when things do not go as planned—such as not being able to get up in the morning, the bus not coming, or losing her lipstick—while expressing the idea of accepting yourself as you are and moving forward at your own pace. As symbolized by the words, “Ima be sad whenever I want / Ima be happy whenever I want,” the song carries a message of embracing your emotions as they are, rather than forcing yourself to be positive on sad days or days when you cannot smile.
In addition, “sad mark girl :(” is available on Apple in Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio.
Following the August release of “next to your love” and this latest track, Sagiri Sól plans to release a new song every month through the end of the year, gradually unveiling works leading into a new phase.
On Saturday, September 26, she will hold “BACK TO MY ROOTS featuring Sagiri Sól,” a special one-night-only cover live show exploring her musical roots, at TimeOut Café & Diner.
Sagiri Sól Comment
“sad mark girl :(” was born from the feeling that even on days when things do not go well, or when you are too sad to smile, it is okay to just be as you are!
In everyday life, I think there are times when things do not go the way we want, when something sad happens, or when we simply cannot bring ourselves to smile. At times like that, you do not have to force yourself to smile. You can cry when you want to cry and smile when you want to smile. I turned my desire to be honest with my own emotions into this song.
Days when you cannot smile, days when you want to cry, and even days when you cannot even cry—the emotions you feel in those moments are an important page in your life.
I hope that by listening to this song, we can move forward together, one step at a time, while embracing our feelings just as they are.
